RBC Design System

Accessibility in design systems and DesignOps

Researching, designing and building accessible web components, then scaling their impact through a design system.

Challenge: Scaling accessibility and inclusive design across the largest bank in Canada, RBC.

Approach: Rather than everyone individually fixing the same accessibility problems, a design platform enables an organization to propagate accessible components and documentation at scale. Requirements, standards and best practices are multiplied outwards saving time and money for product teams using the platform.

I spent 3 years helping the design platform team to ensure RBC.design was built with accessibility and inclusion in mind.

RBC's design platform is a collaborative effort that leverages the wisdom of designers, and developers throughout the organization, working towards the common vision of unifying design and front-end development across RBC. The platform is currently used by various product teams across RBC; the main consumers are designers, developers and quality engineers.
